In Loving Memory of George E. Dixon, IV
September 23, 1948 – August 12, 2025

Obituary
George E. Dixon, IV, lovingly known as “Dickie” to his godmother and many who knew him, passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2025, just weeks shy of his 77th birthday.
Born September 23, 1948, in Harlem, New York, George was the eldest of three children of the late George E. Dixon, III (2012) and Dorothea M. Moppins (2005). He grew up in the Bronx, where he and his siblings, Patricia Graham and Vernon Dixon, made their home at Patterson Houses.
George attended DeWitt Clinton High School and later graduated from Marvelle Academy in Rye, New York in 1966. In 1968, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably as an Airman Basic until his discharge in 1970. After his service, he pursued Political Science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, part of the City University of New York.
As close siblings only a year apart in age, Patricia and George grew up together attending “Red Light” basement parties in the Housing Projects, where white bulbs were swapped for red and soft R&B classics of the 60s filled the room.
In his later years, Vernon grew closer to George and would frequently visit him in Far Rockaway. They would reminisce about old times—and it was also Vernon’s way of keeping a watchful, loving eye on his big brother.
A true character, George was known for his charm, wit, and larger-than-life personality. He could dazzle, delight, and—at times—frustrate, but he was always unforgettable. A gifted conversationalist, he had a natural talent for sales, voice-over work, and acting. Over the years, he held various roles with the U.S. Postal Service, catering companies, and as a property manager in Far Rockaway, NY. With his magnetic presence, many in the community referred to him as the “Mayor of 113th Street Rockaways.”
He was married twice, first to Stella, and later to Gerri. He also shared a meaningful chapter of his life with Debora, the mother of his son Devin, born in 1975. Devin passed away in 2005, a loss George carried tenderly throughout his life.
George was a proud member of the American Legion. He also had a lifelong love of television comedies and film, often impressing friends and family with his encyclopedic knowledge of Hollywood. He could easily have been a contestant on *Jeopardy!* when it came to actors and entertainment history.
Some of George’s hobbies also included cooking—a passion carried over from his catering days—as well as tending to his garden and proudly sharing photos of it on Facebook.
George is survived by his devoted partner, Morgana; his sister, Patricia Graham (and her husband Curtis); his brother, Vernon Dixon; nephews and nieces Jahmal, CJ, Kathy, Kwame, and Nyack; great-nephews and nieces Lowen, Sterling, and Oriana; cousins Herbie and Bobby (and Bobby’s wife Cheryl); his first wife Stella; his second wife Gerri; Devin’s mother, Debora; and many cherished friends including Martin and Dave, along with countless others who were touched by his life.
He will be remembered for his humor, his stories, and his enduring love for family and friends.
